How should I write my receipts:
While each health care insurance provider does from time to time do a random check of information, often times the reason for this request is because something is either missing on the receipt, or there is a difference between the information that is provided on the receipt and the information that we have on file for you that we regularly provide to the health insurance companies. It is important to note that if you change locations or have multiple business locations that updating your information through your membership portal on the website will help to reduce the number of times this occurs.
To aid in reducing the number of these requests we would like to remind you of several things that are important to include on your receipts. Below is a list, as well as an example of what should be included on the receipt:
• Therapists Name followed by educational credentials (e.g. BA, BSc., MT, DOMP, MOT, OMT, etc)
• Therapists Association Number in Correct Format (CMMOTA – RMT#XXXX or CMMOTA – MOT#XXXXXX)
• Therapists Place of Business (if applicable)
• Address of Business
• Phone Number of Business
• GST # (if applicable)
• Date Receipt was Issued with Receipt Number
• Name and mailing address of Client

If your receipts are missing any of this vital information, please update your receipting methods. Please ensure that only the appropriate member number for the treatment is listed on your receipt.
I may be moving to a Regulated Province. What can I expect:
We currently have members that practice in Alberta, B.C., Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba and Yukon. Our members enjoy the freedom of traveling and working within non-regulated provinces throughout Canada. This removes the hassle of joining new associations in each province.
If you are relocating from one province or territory to another, please let our office know, and we will be able to guide you through any necessary changes which may need to be made to your membership type or professional liability insurance policy
Your malpractice and liability insurance covers you to work in regulated provinces such as Ontario, but your clients cannot submit receipts for reimbursement unless you are a member of the Massage Therapy College. The registration number that our members receive can also be used for third party billing with insurance companies so clients can have their treatments reimbursed. This is the case for non-regulated provinces. In regulated provinces, the insurance companies go off of the college registry for insurance reimbursement. We do have members practicing in regulated provinces, however they are required to abide by the rules associated with working in that environment (ie can not be called an RMT, etc.). With that being said, we do have some members that are very successful working in a regulated province.
Tips when starting your new business:
• You will want to contact the city or town office you are residing in to see if your city requires a business license
• You will also want to share with us your new business location and business name so that we can add that information into your membership profile. Remember this business information is available to the public when searched up on Find a Therapist
• You will also want to update any insurance billing portals with this information so that when your clients start to submit their claims, that they will be reimbursed
• You may also want to contact Dusyk and Barlow so that they have any relevant information. Their phone number is 1-800-305-6737
• Become a member of CMMOTA’s Member’s Only Facebook page and connect with your peers. They are the experts
There is some excellent information provided to our members in a recent information session. Here is the link to the meeting. https://cmtdev.ca/lessons/info-session/.
Promotional Emails:
You are able to unsubscribe from our promotional emails. There will be a link on every communication or you can email the office directly. What is the Annual Declaration and When do I need to submit it:
The purpose of the Annual Declaration is to provide on a minimum of a yearly basis the information requested on the form to the Association in order to keep the members information up to date with the Association. We will send this out to all members in October of each year to be submitted by December 31st of each year.
We hope that you found this information helpful! Once again, if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!
